What does this map show?

This map shows the rates of cases and deaths per 100,000 (100K) residents, by country and further by state/department in each country. We are showing the data “per 100K residents” to make it easier to compare how pervasive COVID-19 is across countries, instead of absolute numbers, to provide an “apples to apples” comparison.

What is the data not showing me?

This data shows the current state of cases and deaths based on available data. However, it is a snapshot of what’s available and is not a predictor of what future health indicators will look like. The data itself does NOT explain why these disparities exist - to get the complete picture, please read the Impact section and click the video links on the map. The articles and videos provide additional context that help explain the full story that the data cannot capture.
